Harbhajan Singh meets Modi, Shah to discuss Punjab sports development
On 5 August in New Delhi, former Indian cricketer and Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Singh said the meeting gave him “the privilege of meeting PM Modi” and that the leaders wanted to learn about the issues facing his state.
He raised two main concerns: the decline of sports infrastructure in Punjab, which once led the country, and the role of sports in keeping children away from drugs. Singh urged the ministers to address the poor facilities and support initiatives that can prevent drug abuse among youth, expressing hope that the government will act to improve the situation.
The discussions were part of a broader outreach to newly elected members of parliament, aiming to gather feedback on regional development challenges.
