Harburg authorities introduce new security plan for schools

Authorities in Hamburg-Harburg have introduced a new security concept to protect students following violent incidents near the Abrigado drug aid facility. The plan, presented by the district office and police, includes increased police presence, additional social workers, and private security services to patrol school routes in the morning.

Following the presentation of this plan, an incident occurred involving an NDR camera crew in Schwarzenbergpark. A man reportedly threw a knife at a tree and then approached the media team, prompting the crew to alert the police. While the crew felt threatened, police stated they could not confirm an active threat at the time of their arrival, though they encountered the suspect on-site.

This security overhaul follows shootings in June near the facility that resulted in one injury and required the temporary lockdown of two nearby schools. Additionally, a 30-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the June shootings.
