Harderwijk municipal coalition agreement outlines housing, green spaces and public services 2026‑2030

The newly formed coalition of Gemeentebelang Harderwijk‑Hierden, ChristenUnie, VVD and CDA presented its 2026‑2030 coalition agreement on 3 July. The programme focuses on expanding housing, with priority given to projects such as Nieuw‑Weiburg, the Waterfront, Harderweide and Kranenburg‑Noord, and a specific plan for Hierden that balances new builds for young and old while preserving local character. Residents with strong social or economic ties are to receive preferential allocation where possible.

Transport and public space measures include more space for cyclists and pedestrians, a new parking facility on Westeinde to ease centre‑ward pressure, and the creation of inclusive playgrounds in every neighbourhood. Sports facilities will be upgraded and provided with sufficient capacity. In the social domain, local care teams will be expanded, with special attention to youth wellbeing and digital resilience. The municipality also aims to replace traditional fireworks with a safe, festive alternative ahead of the national fireworks ban and the 800‑year celebration of Harderwijk (and 700‑year of Hierden in 2031). The appointed aldermen are Diliana Pool‑Smit, Marcel Heldoorn, Jo van Egmond and Wilco Mazier, with installation scheduled for the council meeting on 9 July.
