Hardik Pandya faces extended injury layoff

Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya is facing a prolonged absence from competitive cricket due to a stress-related injury on the inner side of his shin and calf. The injury, sustained toward the end of IPL 2026, has delayed his recovery, with reports suggesting he could remain sidelined for up to six months.

Pandya is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. He is expected to begin jogging in approximately three weeks, followed by a gradual eight-week increase in running workload. There is currently no confirmed date for his return to match play, though some projections suggest he may not return until IPL 2027.

His absence presents a significant challenge for the Indian national team as they prepare for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Pandya provides a critical balance as a middle-order batter and fast bowler, a role that is difficult to replace. While players like Nitish Kumar Reddy are being considered as potential backups, the uncertainty surrounding Pandya’s fitness remains a major concern for team selection.
