Hardware modder uses CPU cooler to drop GPU temperatures
A hardware modder known as TrashBench has demonstrated an unconventional method to significantly reduce GPU temperatures by mounting a large dual-tower CPU cooler directly onto GeForce GTX series graphics cards. Using tools such as a circular saw to modify the original aluminum fins of a GTX 1070, the modder was able to bolt a massive CPU cooler and three 120mm fans directly to the GPU's baseplate.
The modification yielded substantial thermal and performance improvements. In testing with a GeForce GTX 1070, temperatures under load dropped by 21 degrees Celsius to a stable 35 degrees Celsius. Additionally, power consumption decreased by 15 watts, while clock speeds increased by nearly 200 MHz, resulting in a seven percent performance boost.
