Hardware stores in Dillingen face closures amid industry crisis

The hardware store industry is facing a crisis driven by declining sales, a downturn in the construction sector, rising energy and rental costs, and reduced consumer purchasing power.

In the Dillingen district, several businesses are impacted. BayWa has filed for insolvency, leading to clearance sales across 30 branches in Bavaria, including the Dillingen location, though its future remains uncertain. Additionally, the household goods business Hinterstößer in Gundelfingen is closing after 36 years and is currently holding a clearance sale.

Meanwhile, the Toom hardware store, a subsidiary of Rewe, is restructuring its distribution hierarchy to streamline operations, with sales managers now reporting directly to the CEO.
