Speaking at the Thessaloniki International Fair, Doukas highlighted that local authorities are struggling to meet rising expenditures, specifically citing high energy costs and increasing payroll obligations.

Doukas noted a significant gap between government funding and municipal needs. He reported that while the Municipality of Athens receives 100 million euros from the state, its payroll costs alone amount to 170 million euros. Consequently, municipal fees are being diverted to cover salaries rather than being used for public works and infrastructure projects.

The Mayor criticized the government for not allocating any funds to municipalities from last year's budget surplus and called for an increase in Central Autonomous Resources to ensure local governments can remain functional. He emphasized that sustainable national development is impossible without the active participation and financial health of cities and regional planning.
