Haris Romas discusses political career and personal costs

Greek actor, screenwriter, and playwright Haris Romas discussed his career and political involvement in an interview with Status FM 107,7. Speaking on the occasion of his production ‘The Princess of the Holy Forties’, Romas addressed his history in local government.

Romas stated that he did not profit from his political activities, claiming he instead used his own personal funds. He noted that his experience as a municipal councilor and faction leader in Chalandri changed his perspective on politics, making him view it through a more serious and dramatic lens rather than a purely comedic one. Consequently, he expressed that he would not produce a political satire series regarding the current Greek political landscape.

Regarding his motivations, Romas asserted that he did not seek political office for the sake of power, suggesting that established artists already possess a significant form of social influence. He also noted the personal cost of political engagement for artists, including the risk of losing supporters and facing increased criticism.
