Haris Theocharis says Samaras' new party would be a “second betrayal”

Deputy Foreign Minister Haris Theocharis warned that if former prime minister Antonis Samaras were to establish a new political party it would constitute a “second betrayal”. He argued that New Democracy already fully represents right‑wing voters on defence, foreign policy, alliances, national strength and migration, and that a split would harm both the party and the country. Theocharis made the remarks on the Skai TV programme, reiterating that personal motives alone could not justify a new party and stressing the need to keep New Democracy united.

The comments come amid speculation about Samaras’ political future and potential fragmentation of the centre‑right bloc in Greece.
