Harish Rawat appears before ED in 2016 exam irregularity case

Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Dehradun on Saturday regarding alleged irregularities in the 2016 Uttarakhand Subordinate Service Selection Commission (UKSSSC) Gram Panchayat Vikas Adhikari (VPDO) examination.

Rawat stated he arrived alone following a notice issued two days prior, which requested documentation concerning his residence, business interests, properties, and bank accounts. The investigation follows recent searches conducted by the ED at various locations in Dehradun. During searches at the premises of Rawat’s personal assistant, Chandan Singh Jeena, authorities reportedly recovered 32 lakh rupees in unaccounted cash, along with gold and luxury watches.

Following the ED's actions, Rawat stepped down from two positions within the Congress party on September 11.
