Harish Rawat resigns from Congress posts after ED raid on PA

Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat has resigned from two key party positions following an Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation. Rawat stepped down from his role as a member of the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee executive and his position as a permanent invitee to the national Congress Working Committee.

The decision follows ED raids conducted in Dehradun related to alleged irregularities in the 2016 Uttarakhand Subordinate Service Selection Commission (UKSSSC) Gram Panchayat Vikas Adhikari (VPDO) examination. During searches at the residence of Chandan Singh Jeena, Rawat’s Personal Assistant and former OSD, officials reportedly recovered 32 lakh rupees in unaccounted cash, along with gold and luxury watches.

In a social media statement, Rawat expressed that he did not want his personal controversies to weaken the Congress party’s ongoing struggle against corruption. While acknowledging the investigation into his former aide, Rawat stated that the facts would become clear in due course.
