Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat has resigned from two organizational positions: member of the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee executive and a permanent invitee to the Congress Working Committee. Rawat stated the decision was intended to prevent the ongoing controversy from damaging the Congress party’s anti-corruption narrative ahead of upcoming assembly elections.

The resignation follows Enforcement Directorate (ED) searches conducted in Dehradun at the residence of Chandan Singh Jeena, Rawat’s personal assistant and former Officer on Special Duty. The ED is investigating alleged irregularities in the 2016 Gram Panchayat Vikas Adhikari (VPDO) recruitment examination conducted by the Uttarakhand Subordinate Service Selection Commission (UKSSSC).

During the searches, the ED reported recovering approximately 32 lakh rupees in unaccounted cash, gold coins and chains weighing about 200.5 grams, and 12 luxury watches from brands including Rolex and Rado. The agency also froze bank accounts belonging to Jeena and his family members containing 52.16 lakh rupees. While Rawat defended Jeena as a hardworking individual and expressed disbelief in the allegations of OMR sheet tampering, he emphasized that the party's struggle must not suffer due to the investigation.
