Harish Salve criticizes INDIA bloc march to Supreme Court
Senior advocate and former Solicitor General Harish Salve has criticized the INDIA bloc’s decision to march to the Supreme Court and seek a meeting with Chief Justice of India Surya Kant. Salve described the move as “sheer stupidity,” accusing opposition leaders of attempting to use the judiciary as a political tool to exert pressure on constitutional institutions.
The criticism follows protests by the opposition regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and allegations of irregularities involving Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Salve argued that political parties should utilize established legal channels and senior lawyers rather than attempting to influence the court through public demonstrations.
Salve further noted that while the judiciary is examining critical issues regarding human rights and the right to protest under Article 19, disagreement with judicial orders should not be interpreted as a lack of faith in the institution. He emphasized that the right to protest is not absolute and must be exercised within the framework of applicable laws.
