India adds weightlifting silver and discus bronze at CWG 2026

Indian weightlifter Lovepreet Singh secured a silver medal in the men’s +110 kg category at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, lifting a total of 388 kg and setting a Games snatch record of 176 kg. He missed the gold by just one kilogram to New Zealand’s David Liti, who lifted 389 kg.

In the women’s discus throw, Seema Kaliramna earned a bronze medal with a best throw of 58.65 m, marking her first Commonwealth Games podium finish. The two medals raised India’s overall tally to 16 medals (3 gold, 10 silver, 3 bronze) at that stage of the competition.

Other Indian athletes also made headlines: para‑sprinter Dilip Mahadu Gavit won gold in the men’s T47 100 m with a Games‑record 10.71 s, Neeraj Chopra qualified for the men’s javelin final, and judoka Asmita De captured India’s first judo gold in the women’s 48 kg class. These performances underscored a strong showing by the Indian contingent across multiple sports at the Glasgow Games.
