Harlem community mourns Lovay Williams following fatal beating

Hundreds of mourners gathered at Canaan Baptist Church in Harlem to hold a funeral for Lovay Williams, a 27-year-old mother who was fatally beaten in Washington Heights on September 6.

Williams’ daughter, who was present in the apartment when police discovered the scene, attended the service wearing green, one of her mother’s favorite colors. During the funeral mass, the child was brought to the open casket to see Williams, who was dressed in a green gown, a light jacket, and a gold tiara.

Williams’ brother, Nuquan Williams Jr., expressed devastation and anger over the loss of his sister, describing her as a devoted mother. The victim’s grandfather, Jose Chango Alvarez, also spoke of the family's grief.

The suspect, Tiliek Thompson, is allegedly Williams’ boyfriend. He is currently being held at Rikers Island facing murder charges.
