HarperCollins India to Publish Dr Sylvia Karpagam's Nutrition Politics Book

HarperCollins India announced it will publish Dr Sylvia Karpagam’s new book, *The Meat of the Matter*, with pre‑orders now open and a release date set for 18 August 2026. The work examines food choices in India, linking nutrition science to the politics, economics, caste and communal factors that shape public‑nutrition programmes such as the mid‑day meal scheme and the Public Distribution System.

Dr Karpagam says the book “offers the basics of nutrition to help plan a meal in a scientific way without all the confusing jargon” and also “explains the politics, economics, caste and communalism behind current nutrition policies… that are adversely affecting the nutritional and health indicators of the country.” Senior Commissioning Editor Ridhima Kumar added that the book “cuts through the noise with science, common sense, and hard‑hitting facts, empowering you to make informed choices about the food on your plate.”

The author, a public‑health doctor and researcher on nutrition and food security, aims to challenge myths about healthy, ethical and “pure” food and to encourage evidence‑based decisions for all readers in India.
