HarperCollins to phase out David Walliams' book catalogue

HarperCollins has announced it will phase out the back catalogue of children’s author and comedian David Walliams. This decision follows previous reports that the publisher would not release any new titles from the author due to allegations of inappropriate behavior toward junior female employees.

The move involves removing his 23 books, including titles such as ‘Gangsta Granny’ and ‘The Boy in the Dress’, from physical bookshop stocks as well as digital and audio formats. Walliams’ works have sold more than 60 million copies worldwide.

Reports indicate that HarperCollins conducted an internal inquiry following a complaint from a junior staff member. Allegations suggest that staff were advised to work in pairs when meeting Walliams and were cautioned against visiting his home. One employee reportedly left the company with a five-figure settlement.

Walliams has strongly denied all allegations of wrongdoing. His agent stated that the author was not informed of the investigation, was not given the opportunity to answer questions, and is currently seeking legal advice.
