Harran University Hospital conducts organ donation training

Harran University Hospital conducted a training program titled ‘Awareness in Organ Donation and the Importance of Brain Death Detection’ for healthcare professionals. Led by Dr. Fırat Erkmen from the Department of General Surgery and Liver Transplantation Unit, the session addressed critical aspects of the organ transplantation process.

Key topics included the number of patients awaiting transplants in Turkey, the definition and detection process of brain death, and the operational procedures of the Brain Death Detection Board. Dr. Erkmen emphasized that timely and accurate detection of brain death is vital for increasing cadaveric organ donations. The training also covered donor safety in living donor transplants, the religious dimensions of organ transplantation, and the potential of xenotransplantation to reduce future organ shortages.
