Harriet Dart advances to US Open second round

British tennis player Harriet Dart has advanced to the second round of the US Open after defeating American Peyton Stearns 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. The victory ends a 19-month wait for a Grand Slam singles win for the 30-year-old, who previously reached the second round of the 2025 Australian Open.

Dart, who has been working with former Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli since January, credited her coaching and the support of her family for the comeback victory. She is scheduled to face 25th seed Marie Bouzkova in the next round.

In the men’s draw, British player Jacob Fearnley also secured a place in the second round. Competing as a lucky loser, Fearnley won a five-set match against Spain’s Martin Landaluce, despite a notable error on a match point during the contest.
