Harris County Moves Forward with $2.5 Million Investigation into Fatal Houston ICE Shooting

Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare said his office could file criminal charges against a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent if evidence shows a violation of Texas law in the July 7 shooting of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston’s Magnolia Park area. The DA’s office has issued dozens of subpoenas, sought body‑camera footage and other evidence, and accused federal agencies of withholding information.

Harris County commissioners approved an additional $2.52 million, to be spent over three years on personnel and technology for the independent investigation led by the DA’s office. The funding is separate from the DA’s budget and aims to address gaps left by the Department of Homeland Security’s own probe. No agent has been charged yet, and the case remains under review by a grand jury, the FBI, the DHS Office of Inspector General and the Texas Rangers.
