Harrison Barnes invests $25 million in Iowa community bank

San Antonio Spurs forward Harrison Barnes has invested $25 million to purchase Community State Bank, located in Paton, Iowa. The 34-year-old athlete, a native of Ames, Iowa, is transitioning a long-standing interest in finance into a major business venture.

Barnes has reportedly been planning this move for several years, a goal previously noted by former teammate Tyrese Haliburton. To prepare for the role, Barnes has enrolled in the Iowa School for Banking through the Iowa Bankers Association and is working alongside experienced banking professionals. Barnes stated in an interview with The Bank Slate, “This is not a vanity project. We want to be Iowa’s next great bank.”
