Harrison School District 2 reports immigration officials approached students

Harrison School District 2 reported that individuals identifying themselves as immigration officials approached students walking to Turman Elementary School in Colorado Springs on Friday, September 25.

According to District 2 Superintendent Dr. Wendy Birhanzel, masked men in unmarked vehicles carrying weapons aggressively approached students during morning drop-off. Witnesses reported seeing men standing on trucks with guns while discussing ICE. The school was placed on secure status for approximately 20 minutes until district security arrived.

Dr. Birhanzel noted that the incident caused significant distress among students and families, leading to low attendance as parents opted to take their children home. While the district has reached out to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for clarification, an ICE spokesperson stated they are currently working on a statement regarding the matter.
