Harrison Smith returns to Minnesota Vikings on one-year deal

The Minnesota Vikings have re-signed veteran safety Harrison Smith to a one-year contract worth $12.25 million, with a potential maximum value of $16.25 million. The 37-year-old Smith, who has spent his entire NFL career with Minnesota, returns for his 15th season following a contract termination in March due to salary cap constraints.

Smith’s return provides stability to the Vikings' secondary, particularly following a season-ending injury to Jamal Adams. Last season, Smith recorded 54 total tackles, one sack, two interceptions, and 10 passes defended. He is one of only six defensive backs in NFL history to record at least 35 interceptions and 20 sacks.

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson commented on the matchup, noting his respect for Smith’s career and the “different vibe” his presence brings to the Minnesota defense. The Vikings are scheduled to open their season against the Packers.
