Harry Potter convention held in Old Havana

The fourth annual Harry Potter convention took place in Old Havana, Cuba, at the Museo de la Pintura Mural. The event, organized by Joel Arturo Salazar, aimed to blend the fantasy universe created by J.K. Rowling with Cuban history, architecture, and mythology.

While entry to the event was free, offering games, knowledge contests, and immersive experiences, the cost of merchandise highlighted the country's ongoing economic crisis. For example, a magic wand was priced at 3,000 pesos, nearly equivalent to the Cuban monthly minimum wage of 3,210 pesos. Related books were priced between 10,000 and 12,000 pesos, representing approximately four times the monthly minimum wage.

The convention also featured a pet adoption fair and an exhibition of native Cuban animals linked to local myths, supported by the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana.
