Harry Potter franchise expands with HBO series and new books

Warner Bros. Discovery is preparing to relaunch the Harry Potter franchise with an HBO television series, which is expected to premiere this Christmas. The adaptation aims to provide a more detailed retelling of the original novels, with each of J. K. Rowling’s seven books potentially receiving its own season. HBO has recently shared new visual designs for the Hogwarts House crests and House Point hourglasses, featuring more intricate and naturalistic motifs.

Alongside the television reboot, Bloomsbury Publishing has announced two new additions to the Pocket Potters series. Scheduled for release on February 23, 2027, these illustrated character guides will focus on Professor Minerva McGonagall and the twins Fred and George Weasley. These books are designed to introduce younger readers to the wizarding world through facts and memorable moments rather than new storylines.

The upcoming series has met with mixed reactions. While some fans look forward to a more comprehensive adaptation, others have expressed resistance to replacing the original film cast, which has become deeply tied to the identities of a generation of viewers. Additionally, Rowling’s role as an executive producer has sparked debate among segments of the fanbase.
