Harry Potter series set for December 2026 release on HBO Max

The new Harry Potter television series is scheduled to premiere on December 25, 2026, via the streaming service HBO Max. This remake will serve as a fresh adaptation of the original books rather than a sequel, beginning with Harry Potter's discovery of his magical heritage at age eleven and his introduction to Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.

Production efforts for the first season have involved significant scale. Cinematographer Adriano Goldman, who worked on four of the eight episodes, revealed that seven hours of footage were filmed in a single day just to capture audience reactions for a single Quidditch match. While the production aims for high atmospheric detail, Goldman noted the challenges of managing such vast amounts of raw material during the editing process.
