Harry Styles discusses overcoming public anxiety
In a conversation with Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke for Rolling Stone, singer Harry Styles discussed how he overcame anxiety regarding public visibility during his early career with One Direction. Styles revealed that the intense fame of his youth often made him feel unsafe outside of hotels or private residences, leading to a sense of isolation.
He credited a former outgoing girlfriend with helping him break this cycle. By encouraging him to walk through London rather than staying indoors, she helped him realize that being in public was manageable. Styles noted that this shift not only improved his connection to the world but also provided a creative advantage, as walking allows an artist to observe life at ground level.
Thom Yorke remarked on Styles’ ability to navigate public spaces without heavy security, noting that while such freedom can feel vulnerable, it is preferable to the isolation experienced by those who live under constant protective detail due to threats.
