Harry Takis seeks redemption at Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship

Australian amateur golfer Harry Takis is competing in the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship at Te Arai Links in New Zealand. As the highest-ranked player in the field, ranked 21st in the world amateur rankings, Takis is pursuing a victory that would grant him spots in the 2027 Masters and the Open Championship.

Takis is seeking redemption after finishing fourth at the previous event, where a quadruple-bogey on the fifth hole involving a shot stuck in a palm tree hindered his title attempt. He noted that the coastal links course at Te Arai shares similarities with Melbourne’s Sandbelt, which may provide an advantage to him and the seven other Australians in the field.

Despite his high ranking, Takis emphasized a pragmatic approach to the competition, stating that “everyone starts at even par” and acknowledging the immense pressure of playing for major championship berths.
