H'ART Museum begins setup for Henri Matisse exhibition
The H'ART Museum in Amsterdam has begun preparing for 'Chez Matisse - Masterpieces from Centre Pompidou', a major retrospective of the French painter Henri Matisse. The exhibition is scheduled to open to the public on October 3 and will run until February 14.
The exhibition features 80 works on loan from the Centre Pompidou in Paris, which is currently closed for renovation. The collection includes 37 works by Matisse, spanning paintings, sculptures, and graphic works. Notable pieces include 'Figure décorative sur fond ornemental' (1925-1926) and 'La Blouse Roumaine' (1940), the latter of which is rarely loaned out.
In addition to Matisse, the exhibition will showcase works by contemporaries and followers, including Pablo Picasso, Barnett Newman, and Mark Rothko. This marks only the third time Matisse's work has been displayed on such a scale in the Netherlands.
