Hartmanice hosts 10th Šumava Pig Roasting Championship

The 10th anniversary of the Šumava Pig Roasting Championship took place in Hartmanice, attracting approximately 2,500 visitors from across the Czech Republic. The competition featured 18 grilling teams, including a guest team from Viechtach, Bavaria. The team from Bolešin near Klatovy secured victory for the third time, followed by Pepa Gril in second place and a team from Mrákov in third.

To mark the jubilee edition, the event included a non-competitive roasting of a bull. Despite the festivities, the region is currently managing an environmental issue nearby, where approximately 200 barrels of toxic substances and 100 tons of contaminated soil were discovered in a former military area, which remains under police guard.

Local officials, including Mayor Pavel Valdman, noted the growing national reputation of the event. Participating teams from South Bohemia, such as Jihočeská Hartmanice and Novohradská prasata, highlighted the long-standing traditions and secret recipes used in the competition.
