Harvard football defeats Brown 14-10 in Ivy League opener

Harvard University defeated Brown University 14-10 in an Ivy League football opener held at Centreville Bank Stadium in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.

Sophomore quarterback Charlie Smith led the Crimson offense, recording career highs with 30 completions and 205 passing yards, including two touchdown passes. His first touchdown was a 5-yard pass to Ryan Tattersall in the opening quarter, followed by a 4-yard touchdown to Teigan Pelletier during a 15-play, 86-yard drive in the second quarter.

Defensively, junior safety Xaden Benson tied a program record by recording three interceptions. Benson’s defensive play helped maintain Harvard’s 14-0 halftime lead and secured the victory after a late Brown touchdown run by Jackson Bennett cut the deficit to 14-10. Brown quarterback James Murphy threw three interceptions during the game.
