Harvard gastroenterologist ranks fruits for gut health
Dr. Saurabh Sethi, a gastroenterologist from Harvard University, has ranked ten types of fruit based on their impact on gut health.
According to Dr. Sethi, blueberries and pomegranates are the best options due to their high antioxidant and polyphenol content, which can reduce inflammation and lower the risk of chronic diseases. Kiwi is also highlighted as an excellent source of soluble fiber to aid digestion.
In contrast, overly ripe bananas are ranked as the worst choice for gut health because they contain high sugar levels but very little fiber or resistant starch. Slightly green bananas are considered a much better alternative. Other fruits like apples, pears, and melons received moderate ratings, while grapes and oranges were ranked lower due to their relatively low fiber content.
