Harvard study outlines five lifestyle habits for longer, healthier life
Harvard Health Publishing released a special edition called “Pathways to Longevity,” edited by Dr. David Barzilai, a leading researcher on ageing. He stresses that living longer is not just about extra years but about maintaining good health, activity, mental clarity and social engagement.
Scientific studies converge on five lifestyle factors that consistently support longevity: regular physical activity, a balanced diet, quality sleep, effective stress management, and strong social relationships. Dr. Barzilai advises a mix of strength‑training twice a week and at least 150 minutes of moderate‑intensity or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic exercise each week, while also encouraging frequent short movement breaks during sedentary work. He emphasizes that there are no secret cures—consistent, simple habits are the most powerful “medicine.”
