West Texas prepares for Harvest Moon and seasonal weather changes

The Harvest Moon is expected to reach its peak on Saturday evening in Abilene, West Texas. The moon will rise at approximately 7:24 p.m., shortly before sunset, and is expected to be roughly 99.7% illuminated. Historically, the Harvest Moon is the full moon closest to the autumn equinox, providing extra light for farmers during the harvest season.

In Lubbock, residents are advised to prepare for upcoming temperature changes by performing seasonal home maintenance. Recommended tasks include testing heating systems, changing HVAC filters, sealing drafts around windows and doors, and protecting outdoor plumbing and plants from potential freezing temperatures.
