Harvey Nichols faces uncertain future with 1,200 jobs at risk
Luxury retailer Harvey Nichols has warned of an uncertain future, stating that the business may not be a going concern without a rescue deal. The company faces the potential loss of approximately 1,200 jobs and the possible closure of its entire UK store portfolio, including its flagship Knightsbridge location and outlets in Leeds and Edinburgh.
Financial filings for the period ending 29 March 2025 reflect deepening difficulties, following five consecutive years of losses. In the 12 months leading up to March 2024, the retailer reported a 5% drop in turnover to £204.8 million and pre-tax losses of £34 million.
Frasers Group, led by Mike Ashley, is reportedly the frontrunner to acquire the chain through a pre-pack administration process. If successful, the acquisition would end 35 years of ownership by Sir Dickson Poon’s family. FTI Consulting has been engaged to advise on the sale.
