Harvey Nichols to close Dublin store following Frasers Group takeover

Harvey Nichols is set to close its Dundrum store in Dublin on 13 September after failing to reach an agreement with Dundrum Town Centre to continue trading. The store, which employs 33 staff, was declared insolvent and unable to pay its debts, including an annual rent bill of nearly €1.1 million. Joint liquidators from Grant Thornton have been appointed to manage an orderly wind-down of operations.

The closure follows Frasers Group’s £40 million acquisition of Harvey Nichols through a pre-pack administration on 14 August. While the deal secures six UK locations for Frasers, the Dublin branch could not find a buyer.

Analysts at GlobalData note that Harvey Nichols has faced an 11% revenue decline, highlighting the vulnerability of mid-to-premium department stores compared to ultra-luxury competitors like Harrods. Experts suggest the brand's decline stems from a loss of distinctiveness and innovation, though there is potential for a turnaround under the new ownership of Frasers Group.
