Harwich warehouse collapses after major fire
A major warehouse on Stour Road in Harwich completely collapsed following a large fire that broke out in the early hours of Sunday morning. More than 35 firefighters from the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service were deployed to tackle the blaze, which produced a thick smoke plume visible from as far as 20 miles away, including the Orwell Bridge in Ipswich.
Emergency services reported that the main structure of the building suffered a complete collapse. While residents were initially advised to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke and falling ash, officials stated there is no asbestos risk from the smoke or ash.
Firefighting operations have been brought under control, though crews will continue to monitor the site. An investigation into the cause of the fire will commence once the area is deemed safe. Local road networks have since reopened.
