Haryana cabinet approves Minority Commission Bill 2026
The Haryana cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, passed the Haryana State Minority Commission Bill, 2026. The legislation creates a statutory Minority Commission to monitor the implementation of constitutional and legal safeguards for minority communities and to promote their social, educational, economic and cultural development. The Commission will consist of a Chairperson, five non‑government members and a Secretary appointed by the government, each serving a three‑year term, and will be granted civil‑court powers to summon witnesses and demand documents.
In the same meeting, the cabinet approved a 1 % motor‑vehicle tax exemption for women purchasing non‑transport vehicles priced up to INR 20 million, extending tax relief to vehicle owners named as women.
