Haryana chief minister pushes tree planting and Yamuna river cleanup

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini addressed the state‑level Van Mahotsav event in Karnal, urging school students to adopt at least one plant under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign. He planted saplings with 800 students and emphasized lifelong responsibility for tree care, linking the effort to cultural traditions and future‑generation sustainability.

The state also unveiled an ambitious Yamuna revival plan. Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi reviewed projects that include 18 new sewage‑treatment plants with a combined 621 MLD capacity, 12 common‑effluent treatment projects, upgrades to six existing plants, and the restoration of 61 ponds along the river corridor. The plan aims to improve wastewater treatment, industrial pollution control and solid‑waste management across the Yamuna catchment, with fast‑track directives to complete construction and tendering.
