Haryana implements new tax exemptions for electric vehicles

The Haryana government has implemented a new electric vehicle (EV) incentive scheme, with the first registrations already processed in the Gurugram and Badshahpur sub-divisions. Under the policy, new battery-electric vehicles with an ex-showroom price of up to Rs 30 lakh are eligible for a 100 per cent exemption from motor vehicle tax. For vehicles priced above Rs 30 lakh, buyers receive a 50 per cent tax waiver.

The incentives apply to various categories, including electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, e-rickshaws, and passenger vehicles. To qualify, the vehicle must be both purchased and registered within the state of Haryana; vehicles bought in other states do not meet the eligibility criteria.

Local officials stated the move aims to reduce the financial burden on buyers and encourage sustainable mobility. Early reports indicate significant savings for consumers, with one resident reportedly having Rs 2,44,900 in motor vehicle tax waived on a Mahindra electric SUV, while another saved Rs 81,120 on a Tata Tiago EV.
