Haryana Minister Anil Vij opposes electricity privatization decision
Haryana Minister Anil Vij has expressed strong opposition to a decision by the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC) regarding the privatization of electricity distribution in the state. Vij stated that the government disagrees with the ruling and intends to file an appeal within five to six days to seek a stay, despite having a 45-day window to do so.
Vij clarified that while the HERC is an autonomous body under central electricity laws that allows providers to submit applications, the state government did not invite such applications. He emphasized that the department has fought the decision vigorously and is prepared to take the legal battle to the Supreme Court if necessary.
Additionally, the minister assured employee unions of the government’s support and maintained that doors remain open for dialogue. He encouraged union leaders to work alongside government lawyers to prepare the case.
