Haryana rice millers seek intervention for 6.5 lakh tonnes of pending rice

A delegation from the Haryana Pradesh Rice Millers and Dealers Association met with Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini to address the backlog of approximately 6.5 lakh metric tonnes of pending custom milled rice (CMR) from the previous paddy procurement season.

The association requested that the Chief Minister coordinate with the central government to direct the Food Corporation of India (FCI) to accept the pending stock. They also proposed extending the CMR delivery deadline from September 30 to December 31.

Key obstacles cited by the millers include limited storage capacity at FCI facilities, which currently accommodates only about 20 per cent of the total procured quantity, and a shortage of fortified rice kernels (FRK). Additionally, the association raised concerns regarding pending bonus payments and transportation arrangements for paddy and rice.
