Haryana sanitation workers extend strike until August 30

Sanitation workers in several districts of Haryana have extended their strike until August 30 following a failure to reach an agreement on their demands. The strike, which has lasted over three weeks, has led to significant waste accumulation on major roads and at dumping points across various cities.

Attempts by local administrations to implement alternative waste collection methods have resulted in frequent clashes between striking employees and police. In Jhajjar, tensions escalated during a night-long operation to remove approximately 125 tons of garbage, leading to confrontations at Bhagat Singh Chowk where protesters reportedly attempted to interfere with machinery. Police detained several workers during these incidents.

In Hisar, police detained between 50 and 60 employees who were protesting against administrative teams attempting to collect household waste. Similar tensions were reported in Hansi, Jind, Sirsa, and Yamunanagar. In Hansi, protesters intercepted a police bus to release detained colleagues after confrontations regarding waste collection efforts.
