Hasan Piker featured in video at Republican midterm convention

During a Republican midterm convention in Dallas, a pre-produced video segment featured a revealing, partially blurred photograph of political commentator Hasan Piker. The image, which showed Piker shirtless in low-slung clothing, was displayed on the arena’s large screens in front of attendees.

Piker, a prominent socialist broadcaster on Twitch and former employee of The Young Turks, reacted to the footage during a live stream. He expressed disbelief at the use of the social media photo, which had originally been shared on his Instagram in November 2024.

The segment appeared to be a deliberate part of a video package targeting left-wing figures, alongside other content such as clips of Black Lives Matter protests and comments regarding communism. Organizers have not provided an explanation for the selection of the specific image.
