Hasan Taçoy urges protection of Turkey's Cyprus guarantee

Hasan Taçoy, a Lefkoşa Member of Parliament for the National Unity Party (UBP), has called upon President Tufan Erhürman to reject diplomatic efforts that could undermine Turkey's role in Cyprus. Taçoy warned that replacing Turkey's effective and actual guarantee with NATO-led guarantees from American or French troops would be a significant error.

Taçoy criticized reported parameters from the UN Secretary-General appearing in Greek Cypriot media. These parameters reportedly include a federal solution based on UN Security Council resolutions, the exclusion of a two-state solution, single sovereignty, and the removal of guarantees and foreign troops. Taçoy argued that such a framework ignores the current realities on the island and seeks to pressure the Turkish Cypriot community through the use of the European Union and the United Nations.
