Hasanul Haq Inu: Full verdict released on 10-year sentence

The International Crimes Tribunal-2 has released the 500-page full verdict regarding the 10-year rigorous imprisonment sentence handed to Hasanul Haq Inu, president of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JASAD) and former Information Minister. The sentence pertains to crimes against humanity committed during the July uprising.

Out of eight charges brought against him, three were proven: conspiring and inciting crimes against humanity through telephone conversations with former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, conspiring to ban Jamaat-e-Islami, and instructing the Kushtia Police Superintendent to detain and torture protesters after compiling lists of demonstrators. While he received 10 years for each of these three proven charges, the sentences will be served concurrently, totaling 10 years of imprisonment.

Inu was acquitted of five other charges, including the instruction to kill protesters and the incitement of a ‘shoot at sight’ decision during a meeting at Ganabhaban. Following the acquittals on these major allegations of murder and genocide, the prosecution team, led by prosecutor Mizanul Islam, has announced preparations to appeal the verdict in a higher court.
