Hashim Djojohadikusumo attributes wealth to fossil fuel and mining sectors
Hashim Djojohadikusumo, the Special Envoy for Climate and Energy for Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, has acknowledged that the majority of his personal wealth is derived from the fossil fuel and mining sectors. Speaking at the International Indonesia Carbon Capture and Storage (ICCS) Forum 2026 in Jakarta, he stated that his involvement in the oil and gas industry spans 34 years.
Djojohadikusumo emphasized that while Indonesia aims to achieve net zero emissions by 2060, the nation must avoid ‘economic suicide’ to maintain a target economic growth rate of 8%. He argued that the country should utilize its abundant natural resources, including fossil fuels, to support this growth.
To balance energy production with climate goals, he highlighted the potential of Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) technologies. He noted that these technologies can help sustain the fossil fuel industry and potentially increase production from aging oil wells while mitigating emissions.
