Hasköy hosts 1st International Checkers Tournament

The 1st International Checkers Tournament is currently underway in the Hasköy district of Muş, Turkey. Organized by the Hasköy District Governor's Office in collaboration with the Turkish Checkers Federation and the Muş Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports, the event brings together approximately 116 to 120 athletes.

Participants represent four countries: Turkey, Iraq, Iran, and Kuwait. The competition is structured into nine rounds held over a three-day period at the Hasköy Sports Hall. According to Mahmut Özdemir, Vice President of the Turkish Checkers Federation, the event aims to promote traditional Turkish checkers across Anatolia and provide a way to distance youth from technology addiction.

Among the competitors is Faik Yıldız, a veteran player from Istanbul who has participated in the sport for 43 years and holds nearly 30 championships. The tournament is expected to conclude with an awards ceremony on August 16.
