Hasnaine Yavarhoussen donates Malagasy artwork to the Met

Malagasy collector and entrepreneur Hasnaine Yavarhoussen has donated Joël Andrianomearisoa’s 2022 artwork, ‘Les Herbes Folles du Vieux Logis’, to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The piece was displayed in the museum’s renovated Michael C. Rockefeller Wing, which is dedicated to art from Africa, Oceania, and the Americas.

Yavarhoussen is a prominent patron of Malagasy art and co-founded Hakanto Contemporary in Antananarivo alongside Andrianomearisoa. His philanthropic efforts include founding the Fonds Yavarhoussen in 2019, which funded Madagascar’s inaugural pavilion at the Venice Biennale. His collection of over 500 works focuses on modern Malagasy art and artists from across Africa, aiming to promote Malagasy culture on the international stage.
