Hatay father builds educational facilities following earthquake losses

Mümtaz Gövce, a father from Hatay who lost his wife and two daughters in the February 6, 2023, earthquakes, has established the ‘6 SIFIR 2 Children’s Rights and Disaster Struggle Association’ to support children's education.

Through a protocol with the Ministry of National Education, the association is funding the construction of several educational facilities. In Hatay, ongoing projects include a four-story primary school, a science and art center, an 800-square-meter kindergarten, a center for children with special educational needs, and a training center for women. The association has already opened 14 classrooms dedicated to libraries and cognitive games.

Plans are also underway to begin construction on an educational facility in Adıyaman. Gövce noted that efforts are being made to honor the names of children lost in the earthquake within the classrooms of the new schools.
