Hatay Social Housing Project Gives Home to Cancer Patient Fuat Torun

Under Turkey's 500 Million Social Housing Project, a ceremony in Antakya, Hatay, allocated a new home to 72‑year‑old cancer patient and earthquake survivor Fuat Torun. The event, attended by Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum, included a ribbon‑cutting and a notarial lottery draw.

Torun, who was trapped under rubble for ten seconds during the 2023 earthquake, said, "I could not imagine owning a home. I am grateful to the President, the state and God for this blessing." He also thanked the government for helping a disabled, ill person secure housing after decades of renting. Another beneficiary, Bilal Kar, who had lived as a tenant for 35 years, expressed similar joy, saying the state had fulfilled his lifelong dream of home ownership.

Both men thanked the President and prayed for the nation’s well‑being, highlighting the social impact of the large‑scale housing programme in post‑earthquake recovery.
